Scrapbook Flowers: Make Your Own

There are some gorgeous scrapbook flower embellishments available on the market today. But at $3.99 for a set of 6 flowers, your scrapbook project can get quite pricey. Here you will learn how to create your own flowers in two different styles. Vary the colors, sizes and materials used for infinite possibilities. Supply list:

1” circle punch
cardstock or patterned paper
adhesive (glossy accents by Ranger)
brads, buttons, etc. (for flower center)
glimmer mists, powered pearls, glitter glue (optional)

Step 1: Punch Circles Punch 15 one inch circles. I like to turn my punch upside-down to see where I am punching.

Step 2: Roll Circles

Roll each circle. I used a Qtip, but you can use any found object. This step seems tedious, but actually can be done fairly quickly. Simply roll and slide off.

Step 3: Pinch each Circle.

Pinch one side of the circle to form a petal. There really isn’t an exact science to this step.

You should now have 15 petals.

Step 4: Apply Adhesive to Circle Base

I use glossy accents by Ranger because it is strong and dries rather quickly. Apply liberally all around circle base. I used a 1 1/2” circle.

Step 5: Adhere Pinched Circles to Base

Adhere the flatter part of the petal to the base.

Continue to add petals around the base.

I ended up with 6 petals as my bottom layer.

Step 6: Adhere Petals for Second Layer

The second layer I added 6 petals again, placing the points between the points of the first layer. You will also notice in the photo below, I flattened the petals a bit on my bottom layer.

Step 7: Adhere Petals for Third Layer

The third layer I added 3 petals. You may need to apply more adhesive.

Step 8: Embellish Center

I had extra adhesive in the center and decided to add some mini beads. You can use any type of embellishment for the center of your flower.

Step 9: Add Designer Touches

A few ideas to enhance your flower include misting with Glimmer mist to add a sparkle. You can also add shine with various other products you have in your craft arsenol like powdered pearls, inks, chalks, glitter, etc.

I used Glimmer Mist and added glitter glue to the edges.

Step 1: Punch Circles

For this particular flower, you want your circles to be uniform in size. Using a punch makes this step quick and easy. Punch 8 scallop circles.

You will also need a slightly smaller circle for the base. I used a circle punch, but you can use any circle as it won’t show.

Optional: At this point you can ink the edges of your scallop circles to give dimension.

Step 2: Fold Each Scallop Circle in Half

You will do this step a total of 3 times.

Optional: Punch hole in circle for base. This will allow for easier brad placement if you choose to use a brad for your flower middle.

Step 3: Apply Adhesive to Circle Base

I use glossy accents by Ranger because it is strong and dries rather quickly. Apply liberally all around circle base.

Step 4: Adhere Folded Circles to Base

Notice that each folded circle has one side with 2 flaps and the other side folded. Adhere the side with the 2 flaps to your circle base. I like to use the punched middle as a guide.
