Carolina Barbecue Sauce Recipe

This is a great barbecue sauce for ribs, chicken and just about anything else you want to put on the grill. It also goes great with this pulled pork sandwich recipe.

This recipe makes 4 1/2 cups of sauce.

Ingredients:

2 cup mustard
1 cup granulated sugar
1 ½ cup light brown sugar
1 ½ cup apple cider vinegar
½ cup water
4 Tbsp. chili powder
2 tsp. black pepper
½ tsp. red pepper flakes

1 tsp. soy sauce
4 Tbsp. butter
2 Tbsp. liquid smoke

How to Make It:

In a large pot, add granulated and brown sugar. Then add the spices (chili pepper, black pepper and red pepper flakes). Then you can add the yellow mustard and vinegar. You do NOT add the soy sauce, butter or liquid smoke at this time.

Mix the above ingredients well. Simmer over low-medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes.

After the sauce has cooked for 30 minutes, it’s time to add the soy sauce & smoke.

Now add the soy sauce and smoke

You’ll also add the butter at this time.

Add butter

Return to heat and continue to simmer for another 10 minutes. Sauce will thicken and be a sweet – spicy flavor.
