Homemade Turkey Broth Recipe
Instead of throwing out the turkey carcass this year, turn it into and easy-to-make and delicious broth. You can use or freeze your broth. Add it to recipes that call for chicken broth or turn it into a comforting soup.
What you need to get started:
• Turkey carcass
• 2 stalks celery
• 3 carrots
• 2 onions
• 10 cups water
• 2 bay leaves
Also, keep on hand vegetable peeler, sharp knife, cutting board, measuring cup, large pot and spoon that can withstand heat.
Remove Any Required Meat from Carcass
If you are going to be making turkey soup or need any of the meat for another recipe, remove what you need before making the broth.
Prepare the Vegetables
Next, peel the onions. Then cut the onion, carrots and celery into large chunks. They are being used to add flavor to the broth, so they don’t need to be finely chopped and there’s no need to peel the carrots either.
Get Ready to Cook
Now you can add the vegetables and carcass to the pot. Don’t worry if your pot is a little overstuffed. As the ingredients break down, everything will fit in the pot nicely.
Add the 10 cups of water.
Add 2 bay leaves.
Boil
Bring to a boil and let simmer for 3-4 hours. Skim the fat off as you go along. When done, strain vegetables and turkey. Your stock is now ready to use.
