Family Friendly Work Places
Every worker with children longs for a family friendly work place. They would prefer to have an employer who takes into consideration how important family is and makes it possible to be a parent and a valuable employee. There are family friendly work places out there, but you may have to do some searching to find one.
Employers value their employees and want to keep them. One way to do that is to provide their employees with additional benefits that other companies don’t. If they try, and succeed, at being a family friendly work place, their employees will appreciate their efforts.
Family friendly work places have many things in common. Some of those similarities include providing an on-site daycare center, lactation room for nursing moms that have returned to work, educational scholarships, or planned family activities. With benefits like this, there’s no wonder employees want to work for this type of family friendly work place.
If you’re currently looking for a new job, you’re probably hoping to find one that offers these or other benefits. How do you go about finding a company like this, though? One way is to talk to friends or people you meet about the companies they work for. Ask them about their benefits if they’re comfortable about that.
Head over to your favorite search engine and look up “top family friendly businesses” and you may be surprised how many websites you’ll find that discuss these businesses or list them. If any of these companies are near you, you may want to find out if they’re hiring.
What do you do if you’re already working and you don’t want to try to find a new job? Can you get your company to be more family friendly? It can’t hurt to talk with your human resources department and ask if they can provide some additional benefits.
Maybe they would be willing to let you telecommute for a day or so each week or adjust your schedule to work part time rather than full time. That would give you more time to spend with your children.
If you or another woman at work has recently had a baby, ask them to provide a relaxing room where you could pump if you’ve chosen to breastfeed. You could also encourage other working parents to petition for getting a company daycare. Any concessions you can get the company to make will benefit the employees and help instill confidence in and loyalty to the company.
It may seem difficult to find family friendly work places but it’s not impossible. When you are fortunate enough to find a company that encourages and provides for the families of their employees, be sure you count your lucky stars.
